A Voice for the Nation

Dylan

Dylan of year 9, competed in the United Nations NSW Voice State Grand Final during week 9. He has been selected to progress to the National level early next year. We spoke to him some more about his speech and progressing to the next level.

What does this competition consist of?

Dylan: Students create solutions for world problems and provide a five minute pitch about their solution and why it would work.

What was your topic?

D: My most recent topic was "How Australia can balance freedom of speech with protection from defamation".

What stage did you just win?

D: I just won the state part of the competition so now I will be representing New South Wales in the national competition.

How do you feel going into the next round of the competition?

D: I'm pretty excited. The nerves haven't quite set in as the next stage isn't until early next year.

How was competing your earlier rounds over zoom?

D: I actually enjoyed doing zoom speeches more than regular ones because you don't have to worry about standing up in front of physical people to present.

Why did you choose to enter this competition?

D: My friend Max is the reason I entered this competition. He encouraged me to enter with him, so I owe it all to him.

Caringbah wishes Dylan good luck as he heads into the National level.
