Co-Curricular Opportunities

Each student at our school has the opportunity to take part in a range of specialised extra-curricular programs to extend and refine their skills, talents and interests. Our extracurricular programs are designed to engage and extend our students.

Music

Students can unleash their creative flair through music performances, competitions, exhibitions and enrichment programs. Students with particular interests and talents can participate in local and state-wide activities in music.

Music Camp is potentially the most anticipated event of the year amongst the students involved in the Caringbah High Music Program, it can be summed up into three days of fun; bonding with students of all ages, working together to improve musical abilities and to ensure a brilliant final performance by everyone at Music Night.

Our acclaimed ensemble, annual Musical productions, Music Art Drama nights and our highly talented and awarded orchestra and ensembles continue to entertain our school community.


Visual Arts

Our school has a rich program of extension learning in Visual Arts. Extension activities are provided through artist workshops, after school and school holiday studio practice, mural programs, visiting artist talks, student exhibitions, competitions, excursions, and workshops within the art community. Such projects include Annex Art ‘Mural In A Day’, ‘Walk the Walls Cronulla’ and the rejuvenation of the Tonkin Tunnel Underpass.

Our dedicated staff are always looking for new and exciting opportunities to support the development and refinement of student skills. 

Debating and Public Speaking

Our school has a highly successful Debating and Public Speaking program and our students Enjoy a long tradition in a number of different competition formats, Speaking Competitions are incorporated a wide range of speaking types including debating, public speaking and spelling. Designed to develop the confidence and oral presentation abilities of students, our school provides opportunities which foster improved communication and listening skills via a number of junior and senior competitions held at local, regional and state levels. Competitions such as:

  • The Premier's Debating Challenge;
  • The Mock Trial competition;
  • The Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award;
  • The Sydney Morning Herald Plain English Speaking Award;
  • Sutherland Shire Debating competition;
  • Sutherland Shire Public Speaking competition.

Drama

Drama at Caringbah High supports students in their learning of a variety of methods and practices. Wherever possible, experts in their field are bought in to engage students in workshops, teaching skills from clowning, playbuilding miming and physical theatre to name a few. Senior students attend NIDA and Belvoir theatre courses to support their IP (Individual Projects) if beneficial.

Drama club and Theatresport classes are offered after school for students in the junior years. There is an intermediate and senior Theatresports team that competes regularly in the Schools Theatresports competition.

Students in Drama perform plays to a wider audience, as well as attend a variety of plays, including Onstage, an exhibition displaying the best of HSC Drama performances and projects. 

Overseas Travel

Moving between countries, cultures and languages is a concept that is valued at Caringbah High School. It is important that our students respond positively to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Caringbah High School students are offered the opportunity to participate in numerous overseas excursions, including such destinations as France, Germany, Japan and China. Students are able to explore such iconic and diverse destinations as Paris, Munich,Tokyo and …city in China, visiting all of the well known monuments and places of interest. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in every day life as part of a family, through home-stays. Students visit the sister school, take part in lessons and explore the local area.

Such trips not only enrich their educational experience through cultural exchange by connecting with people from all over the world, but they provide students with opportunities that will develop their leadership skills to prepare them for future study and career advancement, both domestically and internationally.

We have established sister school relationships with

  • Lycée St-Denis in Loches, France

  • Gymnasium Raubling in Raubling, Germany

  • Xiaoshan no 3 High School in Hangzhou, Beijing, China

Families from Caringbah High School have the opportunity to host students from Oita HS in Japan. It is an experience which encourages cultural awareness and acceptance and is thoroughly enjoyed by all who become involved.

Sport

Our sporting development programs, build on a long tradition of excellence in sporting achievement across the region. Sport is an integral part of Caringbah High School highly encouraged as we aim to develop each individual as a whole. The team building, confidence and enjoyment the students obtain from participating in our sport programs helps build self esteem and acquire skills which can also be transferred to other areas of life.

We participate in a variety of sports including soccer, rugby league, rugby union, basketball, netball, touch, oztag, surfing, table tennis, tennis, squash, baseball, softball, hockey, water polo and dance plus many more.

Throughout the years we have had many successes with teams winning the regional finals as well as students being selected to represent zone, regional, state and national teams. Our most recent success over the past few years have been:

  • Junior Boys Cricket team which has won the Sydney East knockout competition

  • Open Girls Soccer team which has won the region in consecutive years and progressed through to the finals stages in NSW finishing 3rd in NSW.

  • Open Boys Baseball which has progressed through to the final NSW state knockout competition

  • Open Boys and Girls Netball progressing through to the final NSW state knockout competition

After School Tuition

Weekly after school tuition is offered and taken advantage of by many of our students who enjoy the time reserved to have one on one extra tuition from our very experienced teaching staff.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award program is very popular at our school. The Award is an internationally recognised youth development program providing opportunities for personal and social development for 14-25 year olds. Through participation in this award winning program our students learn develop problem solving skills and learn to work with others while they build resilience and leadership capacity. This program also enables our students to pursue and develop their own interests as well as providing opportunities to serve within our community.

Interact

Caringbah High School's Interact club was formed in July 1997. It is a service club sponsored by Sylvania Rotary Club. Interact is your chance to make new friends, improve your community, develop leadership skills and make a difference in the world by carrying out service projects that you care about.

We support our school, our community, and Australian and International projects.
