Frequently asked vaccination questions

Question: What happens if I miss a vaccination clinic?

If you have missed Clinic 1 or 2, there will be a catch-up offered at Clinics 2 and 3. If you have missed all the catch up opportunities at school. Some vaccinations are time dependent – e.g. the Year 7 HPV vaccination must be started in the year your child is in Year 7. The Year 10 Meningococcal Vaccination should be free in another school year if necessary. Please check with NSW Health and your GP for the most up to date information.

Question: I don’t want my child vaccinated, what do I do?

If you are not planning to have your child vaccinated at the school clinic, simply do not return the signed consent card. The school is here to facilitate vaccinations for those students whose parents want them to be vaccinated.

Question: I need my vaccination record, can you provide it?

No. The school simply facilitates NSW Health’s school based immunisation program, we do not retain any records of vaccination. You can access your own (or your child’s) vaccination history using the My Gov App. You can also contact NSW Health:

Question: My child has a fear of needles, what do I do?

You can have your child try and have their vaccination at school and talk with them about the reasons your family has decided to have them vaccinated. They could do some deep breathing and meditation. Make sure they are hydrated and have had a nutritious breakfast before the vaccination. If your child is highly anxious at the thought of a vaccination you can also accompany your child at an appointment at the GP.
