Over the past few weeks, the Year 10 Visual Arts class have been investigating the power of installation art in creating a dynamic relationship between art, space and the public. The students were asked to collaboratively create public installation artworks around the school that interacted with space and evoked a response in the audience.
After weeks of thoughtful concept development and careful material construction Year 10 produced three amazing and thought provoking installation artworks that are currently displayed around the school. The works aim to deal with a range of subject matter and create varied responses in those who view them.
This insightful group of works include an appropriation of the 'Love Lock' bridge in Paris, which uses decorated laser cut wooden tags to house wishes and dreams written by students from various year groups. Another work uses wire and string to create eerily dynamic sculptural hands that protrude out of a barred window in the G block, suggesting ideas of containment, escape and unravelling. The third work was created using the 'Wailing Wall' in Jerusalem as inspiration. The group worked to fill a crack in the D block wall with origami flowers, creating beauty in what would otherwise be seen as a defect.
Year 10 are to be commended for the high quality of their collaborative work.
