U Turn the Wheel

U Turn the Wheel is a follow up program to the bstreetsmart event year 11 attended last year as part of their year 10 Welfare program. U Turn the Wheel is an incredibly important and immensely useful activity on the Caringbah High School calendar as an annual year 11 event. The Rotary Club organises an amazing road safety program which goes around to schools in the local Sutherland Shire area. Students are given access to a range of experts in their specific field to learn about road safety and making good choices. Presenters include the NRMA who give highly informative and exceptionally relevant information for year 11 students when it comes to buying a car and ensuring they do not get stuck with a "lemon". In particular they are taught the importance of getting a vehicle check and being aware of the mechanical safety of their first car. Youth Services from St George give practical tips on making good choices about when to leave the car at home and the importance of making plans for a safe night out. The Police demystify the relationship between Police and young people. The Police officer who attended this year showed a deep empathy for students and left students with the important message that making good choices and getting home safely means the Police don't need to make house calls with bad news for their parents. This presentation seemed to be the most impactful for some students as they were unable to hide from the harsh reality. Overall it is an exceptionally impressive incursion. We extend our thanks to Rotary for making such an important program accessible to our students.

Year 10 2018 attended the bstreetsmart Event at Qudos Arena on Tuesday 28 August, 2018 and in 2019 they will be able to attend U Turn The Wheel when they are in year 11.
