Caringbah High students raise over $20,000 in the World's Greatest Shave!
On Tuesday 20 March, Caringbah High students participated in the Leukaemia Foundation's iconic World's Greatest Shave campaign, which is celebrating its 20th birthday.
Our students joined more than 1.9 million extraordinary Aussies who have helped beat blood cancer by getting sponsored to shave, colour, wax, cut pony tails, banish beards and trim top knots.
The $20,000+ raised by our students raised will give families facing blood cancer including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma the free emotional and practical support they need as well as help fund vital research.
For the first time, the World's Greatest Shave is ‘going green' in 2018. This means ponytails snipped from who took part in the event will now be turned into wigs for cancer patients, shorter hair clippings will be transformed into compost and floating booms to absorb oil spills at sea.
We are so incredibly proud of Eri (team captain), Angelica, Dean, Aleksander, Rebecca, Ruby, Molly, Marco, Philippa, Emi, Zac, Morris, Rhys, Liam, Lehra, Jakob, Winnie Richard, Simon, Aidan, Emily, Lucas, Marcus and Matthew who bravely cut, shaved or waxed their hair in front of our student body. This incredible group of students showed amazing initiative and worked as a cohesive and dedicated team to fund raise, organise and manage the event. Thank you also to the countless students, staff and parents who coloured their hair, donated so generously and shared the fundraising page link with their friends and colleagues.
We are also incredibly grateful to Silvana from Silvana's Hair Design in Caringbah (www.silvanashairdesign.com.au) who volunteered her time, expertise, equipment and encouragement to the students who cut and shaved their hair on the day.
