Sydney East Blues Awards

On Tuesday evening 6 November, 2018 I was privileged to attend the Sydney East Sporting Blues Presentation. A sporting Blue is the most prestigious award which can be bestowed upon a varsity athlete. The awarding of a sporting Blue has its focus on excellence and tradition. Those awarded Blues are leaders in their respective sports and part of an educational tradition of leadership and achievement which is of the highest prestige and importance.

This year Caringbah had to my knowledge a record 5 Blues awarded to 4 students. Oli received an amazing and most rarely presented two Blues in the sport of Athletics for his Track as well as Cross Country achievements. Oli won many events throughout the course of the year and was justifiably awarded Blues in these two different events. Imogen and Marjolaine were awarded a Blue for the sport of Cross Country running and Alex was awarded his Blue for the sport of Swimming. All four students have been prolific in their respective sports throughout their school life and we look forward to hearing of their exploits in the future.

In addition to the Blues awards Oli was also the recipient of the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Sports Scholarship which is presented to one male and one female athlete each year in the Sydney East Region. This is a most prestigious honour and underlines the quality of Oli’s performances this year, with his highlight being in the CHS 3000m final where he won the Gold medal and broke Ryan Gregson’s record by 9 seconds. Ryan Gregson is currently the Australian record holder for the 1500m and is a multiple Olympian and one of the world’s current top 1500m runners.
