Well done to the Open Girls Netball Team, who participated in the Sydney East Central Venue Carnival on Monday July 30!
After defeating Wiley Park Girls and Sydney Girls in the first round of knock outs back in March, the team were up against more challenging local schools this time.
Our first match, against Endeavour Sports High, fiercely tested our defence, with Gabby, Amber and Elena working hard to keep the competition at bay. Later, another tough game against Kirrawee High saw a second defeat, though our shooters, Darcy, Caitlin and Amelia, supported by Amber played extremely well, ensuring we kept our skin in the game.
Our final opponent, Cronulla High, was well matched and our mid court and defenders, Emma, Khyla, Bailey, Keiley and Sarah, ran ragged to keep the ball down our goal end. The girls played valiantly, though we were down by two points at full-time.
A great day was had by all out at Menai Indoor Sports Centre, with the team playing cohesively and competitively, with camaraderie and a positive attitude, despite the difficult opposition. Special mention to Marina, who umpired all games fairly, a valuable member of the team.
