Elective Subject Information

Elective Subjects for Years 9 and 10

Elective Subjects are studied in Year 9 and 10. The wide range of subjects studied by students during Years 7 and 8 should enable them to make well-informed choices for the next two years of the Junior School. Choices should be based on interest in the subject.

Every effort will be made to ensure the students' requests for electives will be met. It must be understood, however, that classes cannot be established if demand is insufficient. Students will be asked to nominate seven elective subjects and rank them in their preferred order, however only three electives will be studied in during the year.

Elective Information Booklet Stage 5

The main purpose of this document is to provide an outline for all Elective subjects available at Caringbah High and to assist you in the choice of three electives for study in Years 9 & 10.

An invitation is extended to parents of Year 8 students to discuss the electives available. The elective subject information meeting usually takes place in June. See school calendar for date and time.

General enquiries regarding organisation of subjects should be directed to the Year Adviser (Year 8) or one of our Deputy Principals. We can be contacted through the school office on 9524 3859.

Elective Subjects for Years 11 and 12

Students entering Year 11 will need to ensure that they choose a pattern of study and satisfactorily complete:

  • a Preliminary patten of study that includes 12 units
  • a HSC pattern of study that includes at least 10 units

Both patterns of study must include at least:

  • 6 units of NESA Developed Courses
  • 2 units of Advanced English
  • 3 courses of 2 or more units (either NESA Developed or NESA Endorsed Courses)
  • 4 subjects

Students are advised to pick subjects that are of interest to them and suit their ability.

While every effort will be made to ensure that student requests for course will be met, it must be understood that classes cannot be established if demand is insufficient.
